HIGHLIGHTS:
Greek Painting by Stavropoleos Kotronas
The monastery was built in 1542, following the tradition of the 14th century Bogdanesti Monastery destroyed beyond repair by the Tartars and Ottoman Turks. Also pillaged by the Tartars, the monastery was rebuilt in the early 17th century. Two narrow and tall steeples stand on top of a rather small, but massive church body.
On the inside, faded original and 19th century restored frescoes alternate, while on the outside the whitewashed walls are adorned with medallions featuring monk figures and only the Western wall comes complete with a picturesque fresco also including traditional patterns.
